Meals
A healthy diet plays an important role in the growth and development of a child.
At Kanooka we encourage healthy eating habits from infancy and provide balanced and nutritious meals throughout the day.
Menu
Our menu is seasonal and reflective of the multicultural environment at Kanooka.
Our dedicated cook prepares fresh meals on-site according to a four week rotating meal plan that follows the Australian Dietary Guideline recommendations for infants and young children.
We cater for all food requirements, allergies and preferences and encourage further input from families, children and staff.
Food and Child Safety
To ensure the safety of children, we do not allow any food that contains nuts or eggs to enter the centre.
Any child with allergies or anaphylaxis is required to provide an "Action Plan" prepared by their GP, along with any medication as appropriate.
A “Risk Minimisation Plan” is also developed in conjunction with family and staff.
This allows our cook to organise appropriate meals for these children.
Fostering healthy habits
Involving children in the menu planning encourages healthy habits through healthy practice.
Starting in the Nursery, children participate in cooking simple, delicious and nutritionally appropriate dishes for themselves and their peers.
Mealtimes are a social event where children are encouraged to enjoy healthy dishes while interacting with peers and Educators.
This supports our children to develop a healthy relationship with food and good eating behaviours for life.
